If we had never been
Would I be who I am today?
Would my life be any different
If you hadn't come my way?
I know I shouldn't wonder -
It's no good to second guess.
And it really shouldn't matter
'Cause I know I did my best.
But looking back upon
The days of you and me,
I see no rhyme or reason
Of love’s reality.
Were we in love
Or was it all a dream?
Things are not always
What they seem.
I held on for far too long,
I can’t go back again.
Good or bad…right or wrong,
I’m not the person I was then.
I’ve gathered up my memories
And put them all away.
Stacked them in a corner of my heart
And marked them “Yesterday”.
Yes… My life is different.
I’ve changed deep within.
I never would’ve found myself
If we had never been.
