The Wall

The wall,
Alone it stands,
Silent testimony,
To the fallen man.

The badge retired,
Polished and bright,
Keeps a quiet vigil,
Throughout the long night.

A mother’s tear,
A father’s cry,
A young child,
Questioning why.

Speak to me of peace,
Do not let my ears hear,
The sound of hearts breaking,
The sound of children’s tears.
